Die Hard 6's Producer Explains The Script's Title
We're living in a world with a lot of reboots and remakes right now, but in that same world a lot of franchises just continue to go on and on and on. While the last several Mission: Impossible movies have been highly touted by fans and critics, the last several Die Hard movies haven't seen the same cultural resonance. Still, a sixth movie is being made that could change the nature of the Bruce Willis-led movies in general, in that it plans to bring in a new actor to play a younger John McClane. With that in mind, Die Hard 6 or Die Hard: Year One currently has a script running around that has given the movie a different name, McClane. Here's what producer Lorenzo diBonaventura had to say about the script's title.
It would be pretty hard to not get invested in John McClane in McClane, given the story. From what we've heard about the sixth Die Hard franchise film, the movie will be part "origin" story, with a sixty-something John McClane returning, but also with a separate twenty-something John McClane doing prequel sorts of things. It's hard to imagine even what that would look like, but as Lorenzo diBonaventura told Empire, the story will certainly be McClane-centric and the script's title reflects that.
Speaking to concerns that bringing in a new, younger John McClane meant less of Bruce Willis overall, Lorenzo diBonaventura also said that Die Hard is so closely identified with Willis that it would be difficult to do a movie without the actor's involvement. He said:
So, long story short, we still have no idea what a movie with two separate timelines will look like. Will this mean that Bruce Willis' John McClane will be involved with a case that hearkens back to his youth and will feature flashbacks? Will something else be happening entirely. The only thing that is certain is that the focus will still be on the John McClane character and retitling the Die Hard 6 script McClane makes that very clear.
We'll have to wait and see if the final version of the flick sticks with the McClane title. On the bright side, the movie definitely seems to be moving forward at a quick clip, with director Len Wiseman at the helm. As the movie moves closer to production, we'll be sure to keep you posted if any other details about the movie finally come into focus. For now, take a look at our movie premiere schedule to see what flicks are coming soon.
