The Captain Marvel Trailer Got An Incredible Number Of Views In Its First 24 Hours
It's an absolutely fascinating time to be a movie fan, especially regarding the behemoth Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Avengers: Infinity War shattered expectations and brought together the shared universe's biggest characters, all eyes are on how Phase Three will conclude. The Russo Brothers shocked the fandom by allowing Thanos to win the battle, and wipe out half the galaxy with the snap of a finger. But before answers are provided, Brie Larson's Carol Danvers will finally enter the scene for Captain Marvel. The first trailer finally arrived this past week, and it's already raked up an outstanding amount of views. Namely, 109 million Youtube views in 24 hours. As Marvel Studios celebrated on social media:
Despite being a less popular hero and having no prior appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's clear that moviegoers are very interested in Captain Marvel. Because if the first trailer is any indication, Carol Danvers is getting a very different type of origin story.
Per Marvel's Tweet, Captain Marvel's trailer performance likely teases big things for the upcoming blockbuster, which is the penultimate installment in the MCU's Phase Three. Every single movie in the current phase has been a critical and financial success, so the pressure is on for Marvel to deliver with its final to blockbusters. While Avengers 4's performance is all but guaranteed in the wake of Infinity War, Captain Marvel is arguably a bigger gamble. Or it was, before the trailer finally arrived.
Fan excitement for Captain Marvel has been building since Brie Larson was announced in the role years ago. Fresh of an Oscar win for Room, the actress seems like a great choice to play the MCU's first female leading lady. Carol Danvers has also been teased as the strongest superhero we've met thus far, with some of her awesome abilities teased during Captain Marvel's first trailer.
Aside from Captain Marvel's origin story in her first solo movie, fans are also eager to see how the title character functions within the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following Thanos' finger snap of death in Infinity War, moviegoers were left to watch in horror as fan favorite characters turned to dust before our eyes. With only a handful of characters left (including the OG members of the Avengers), the good guys are going to need all the help they can. But since Captain Marvel has been teased as the most powerful hero in the entire shared universe, hopefully she'll be able to make quick work of the Mad Titan in Avengers 4.
All will be revealed when The Russo Brothers' still untitled Avengers 4 arrives in theaters on May 3rd, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
