Although there have been plenty of casualties in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last decade, on the hero side of things, the body count was relatively light until the events of Avengers: Infinity War. In fact, since Agent Phil Coulson was revived for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., arguably the biggest death of this bunch that had stuck was Pietro Maximoff's, a.k.a. Quicksilver, who perished in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Earlier this year, it was rumored that Avengers 4 might bring the speedster back into play, but according to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, that's not in the cards. When asked if he'd show up in the Phase 3 capper, the actor responded:
It's not a conversation right now.
Like most actors playing important characters in the MCU, Aaron Taylor-Johnson signed a multi-picture deal when he joined Avengers: Age of Ultron, but just becomes someones signs such a contract doesn't mean it will be used in full. The door is technically open for Quicksilver to somehow return to the MCU, and when Johnson was reportedly spotted on the Avengers 4 set back in May, that re-triggered conversation about Wanda Maximoff's brother being involved in the story. But as Johnson told Metro, currently there are no plans for him to participate in any future MCU projects, including Avengers 4.
Quicksilver was killed during the Battle of Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron when he rushed in front of a hail of bullets that were about to hit Hawkeye and a child. Given how death is rarely permanent within the pages of Marvel and DC comic books, there's been on-and-off chatter in the years since then about how Quicksilver could possibly be resurrected. Or, given the speculation about time travel in Avengers 4, maybe we'd see an Age of Ultron-era Pietro again. Alas, it sounds like we can shelve those theories, though maybe things will change later down the line.
While Quicksilver is staying six feet under (for now), his sister Wanda, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, survived Avengers: Age of Ultron and went on to play important roles in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately for her, she was among the half of people in the universe wiped off the map by Thanos at the end of Infinity War. It's expected that she and the other disappeared heroes will be brought back in Avengers 4, but how that will be accomplished is still a mystery.
