Kevin Hart And Chris Rock Are Teaming Up For A New Comedy
Besides being a talented comedian, actor and writer, Chris Rock has shown off his directing chops on a few occasions. It's been three years since the last directorial endeavor, Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo, was released on HBO, but Rock is preparing to step back behind the camera for a new project. Next up, he's collaborating with Kevin Hart on a comedy movie, the bread and butter for both of them.
Universal Studios has tapped Chris Rock to direct Coparenting, which was penned by Black-ish writer Yamara Taylor. The movie sees Kevin Hart playing a father who stays at home to look after his kids while his wife, a top CEO, brings home the proverbial bacon. Hart's character is thrown for a loop when his wife initiates a "bitter divorce and custody battle." Rock and Hart will produce alongside Will Packer and John Cheng.
THR's report also mentioned that Chris Rock and Kevin Hart came up with the idea for Coparenting together. (It's worth noting that both men have first-look deals with Universal for feature films.) Hart has said in the past that Rock was a major influence on his own comedy, so having another opportunity to work with him is undoubtedly welcome. It's unclear if Rock will have a role in Coparenting or if he's sticking solely to directing, but either way, I'm eager to see what these two cook up together.
Chris Rock made his directing debut in 2003 with Head of State, where he played an alderman who suddenly finds himself a viable presidential candidate. He returned to the director's chair in 2007 with I Think I Love My Wife and in 2014 with Top Five, the latter of which Kevin Hart appeared in. Rock was also nominated for an Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special Emmy for his work on Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo.
In front of the camera, Chris Rock's recent credits includes Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, an episode of Kevin Can Wait, hosting the 88th Academy Awards and his stand-up special Chris Rock: Tamborine. In August, he was tapped to play the lead character in Fargo Season 4, which will begin filming late next year.
As for Kevin Hart, he most recently appeared in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Night School. His long-awaited comedy-drama The Upside, where he starred alongside Bryan Cranston, is set to finally premiere to the public next January, and Hart is also signed on for Jumanji 3, Ride Along 3 and The Secret Life of Pets 2.
