Halloween Writer Danny McBride Is Brewing Ideas For A Sequel

Michael Myers proving there are monsters in the closet in Halloween

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Blumhouse's Halloween!

Like horror villains themselves, horror franchises never die; so even before the success of the new Halloween, it was inevitable that we would see Michael Myers again. As David Gordon Green's film enjoys box office success, thoughts and speculation turn to the all but certain sequel. One of the film's writers, Danny McBride is already brewing ideas for the sequel too. As he explained:

We definitely have ideas of what we would do. I think we did not allow ourselves to really indulge those ideas until the movie came out. We just wanted to put all our hopes and dreams in having this film stick the landing. But we do have thoughts and ideas of what we could possibly do. We hadn't invested a ton of time on them, but now we're being asked to figure it out. There are definitely talks on whether we will do more of them and we're just trying to see what best makes sense.

Danny McBride and the people behind Halloween seem to be taking their time regarding an approach to a potential sequel. They naturally had some ideas, but didn't want to commit too much time or thought to them until a sequel was actually plausible. Now, in the wake of Halloween's success, those ideas can be allowed to grow.

It was probably smart to just focus on one thing at a time, and put all their energy into their first movie-- because there was no guarantee they would get to make another one. So while there may not be a firm plan, as Danny McBride told Deadline, there are some ideas about what they could do with a sequel. And given how well their ideas turned out in this Halloween, it will be exciting to see what they have in store a sequel.

Danny McBride didn't divulge any details of what the potential sequel ideas are, so we're left on our own to speculate but there is some information to go on. Director David Gordon Green has mentioned that there were some unused ideas, and potential future plans for the character of Cameron Elam, played by Dylan Arnold in the film.

Cameron was Allyson's boyfriend in the film, who despite being not being a good boyfriend, still managed to escape Michael Myer's blade. It sounds like there are ideas for him to play a bigger role in the sequel that would presumably again feature the Strode family and Andi Matichak's Allyson.

The ending of Halloween had some ambiguity, leaving open the possibility that Michael Myers survived to slash another day. I would like to see what the franchise could do without Michael Myers, but it seems likely he will return and I'm sure Danny McBride & Co. can come up with a great story for him to do so.

Actress and franchise heroine Jamie Lee Curtis also seems on board for a sequel, if director David Gordon Green calls her up for one and he should probably start dialing. Halloween enjoyed a huge opening weekend and its now the biggest slasher movie of all time, so a sequel is probably headed for the fast track.

Halloween is now playing. Check out our release schedule to see the biggest movies still headed to theaters this year and stay tuned to CinemaBlend for all the latest updates on the future of the Halloween franchise.
