One of the most buzzed-about horror movies of 2018 is A Quiet Place. It took the world by storm earlier this year, thanks to its unique concept and excellent execution. The film is being heralded as an Oscar contender, and a sequel is currently being developed. There are no real details on what this sequel would be about, but star Emily Blunt thinks it'd be interesting to see what the family was like before the world went haywire.
In A Quiet Place, the world has been overrun by monsters with exceptional hearing, forcing the remainder of humanity to live in complete silence. The movie follows the Abbott family, with real-life married couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski playing the matriarch and patriarch. Krasinski co-wrote and directed the horror movie, and he's currently working on ideas for a sequel.
As to what that sequel can be, Emily Blunt offered some suggestions to Entertainment Weekly. She proposed that a sequel could take a look at what the Abbott family was like before they had to stop talking to each other to survive. A Quiet Place is only so good because people care about the family at the center of it all, so it makes sense to flesh them out for more installments.
However, Emily Blunt admits that telling the next chapter in their journey might override anything focused on the past. While finding out more about the family is a good idea, I would agree that it's more entertaining to stay with the ravenous monsters than following the Abbotts when they were just like every other family.
That being said, there's no shortage of other ideas for a sequel. It could be set several years in the future when the children are older, or right after the events of the first film. It could even opt to focus on an entirely different family to help flesh out the world. People responded very strongly to this movie, so there's room for a lot of potential.
Whatever the sequel ends up being about, A Quiet Place 2 won't release in theaters until May 15, 2020. That's still far off, so keep yourself occupied with movies that are hitting theaters for the rest of the year, all of which you can find in our 2018 movie release guide.
