Thanos And Queen Make A Surprisingly Delightful Combination In New Video
At the box office this year, both Bohemian Rhapsody and Avengers: Infinity War have had reason to sing "We Are The Champions", but there's actually another Queen song that is quite appropriate for the latter's villain Thanos. A fan has paired Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" with the Mad Titan that couldn't be stopped in a new video, and the result is a delightful combination that is well suited to Thanos' journey. Check it out.
Given the gravity of Thanos' arc in Avengers: Infinity War you might not think that such an upbeat Queen song would work for the character. But the lyrics of "Don't Stop Me Now" and the editing of this video match the two up nearly perfectly for a fun look at Thanos' hero's journey. We know that Thanos is the bad guy, but this pairing of song and subject turns the whole thing in to a fun experience, and makes you root for Thanos as he has himself a real good time.
Just the title of the song and the chorus of "Don't stop me now" fit so well to Thanos' attitude about his quest and the various people standing in the way of him achieving it, he feels he can't be stopped. I'm not sure if he's having a ball or not given the Gamora of it all, but Thanos definitely seemed to take some pleasure in his crusade-- especially considering his dialogue in the trailer dialogue about it putting a smile on his face.
Reddit user supertrooper151 does a brilliant job of lining up the song's lyrics, themes and tempo with certain parts of the film so that the two fit together to convey the mood of Thanos as a hero who can't be stopped. The first time that you hear "Mr. Fahrenheit" in the song, it coincides with Thanos shooting fire from his gauntlet, letting Iron Man know that he's the man the song is talking about.
Some other fun touches are when Freddie Mercury sings "I am a satellite" right as Thanos breaks up the moon to rain it down on his foes. Also Thanos snaps his fingers to conclude the last verse. The song then fades out as the Mad Titan watches the sun rise on a grateful universe.
Thanks to his gauntlet, Thanos also does defies the laws of gravity and has the power of an atom bomb. I'm not sure whether he's a sex machine or not, but given the people who advocated for Thanos' hotness in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War, we probably can't rule it out.
Hopefully this fan video is prophetic that we'll get more Queen songs in MCU movies in the future. As far as I can tell the only one of the band's songs to make it into an MCU film was "Another One Bites the Dust" in Iron Man 2.

"Don't Stop Me Now" did appear on the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series soundtrack but not in the films. Once he gets unsnapped Peter Quill does have a Zune now, so maybe we'll hear more Queen whenever Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally rolls around.
To hear more Queen now on a great sound system, head to your local theater and see Bohemian Rhapsody. Check out our release schedule to see all the biggest movies coming the rest of this year and for all the latest in mashups you didn't know you needed, stay tuned to CinemaBlend.
