Infinity War's Captain Marvel Nod Could Have Looked Different
Marvel is known for intriguing post-credits scenes, and Avengers: Infinity War offered a doozy of one. Both Maria Hill and Nick Fury realized that people were disappearing and, in the last moments before the snap, Nick Fury used a 90s device to clue Captain Marvel in to the fact things were going to hell on Earth. Recently, designer Fausto De Martini revealed he had designed a different piece of technology for the big alert scene early on. You can take a look, below.
According to Fausto De Martini's post, the design we all saw at the end of Avengers: Infinity War was not one that he had created. However, he was asked to do some mockups early on and he shared a look at what his version of a '90s era communication device would have looked like. He also noted the Palm Pilot was the inspiration for what would become a communicator between Nick Fury and Carol Danvers. All in all, it's a cool look at how much attention to detail goes into creating a Marvel film.
Presumably, the events in Captain Marvel will at least have some ties to what is going on in Avengers: Infinity War and its follow-up, the still untitled Avengers 4. If Carol Danvers had still been hanging around on Earth in the time after the 90s-set Captain Marvel, likely we would have heard of her being around in the Avengers era.
In addition, the fact she and Nick Fury are communicating through a 90s device means that she likely hasn't been in contact with the man for some time and maybe even since the events in Captain Marvel. There are a whole slew of theories relating to Nick Fury and Carol Danvers rolling around out there, including but not limited to the idea that Fury may have had some prescience over what was and perhaps is to come.
Previously, Kevin Feige revealed that Nick Fury opted to contact Carol Danvers at the end of Infinity War because he realized the Earth and its heroes were facing something beyond the scope of what could be handled. Per Marvel's head honcho:
