Earlier this year, movie-goers were formally introduced to Thanos, a being who plunged the MCU into chaos when he wiped out half of all life in the universe. However, Thanos isn't the only evil alien warlord in comics. Over at DC, Thanos' counterpart is Darkseid, a literal god of evil. Comic fans have always wondered who would win if the two ever fought. Now one YouTube channel has presented their own answer to the question.
Even with the Infinity Gauntlet on his side, Thanos would get wrecked by Darkseid.
The YouTube channel Screw Attack tackled Darkseid vs Thanos in their popular show Death Battle, which pits two fictional characters in a death match and compares their strengths, weaknesses, and history to decide who would win a fight.
Death Battle digs deep into both Thanos and Darkseid, laying out their most impressive accomplishments of strength in order to calculate just how strong they really are. If Thanos can destroy a planet with one punch, then how much force is behind his punch? Comic book characters hardly have the most consistent power levels over the course of their long histories, so Death Battle does its best with what it has.
Ultimately, the show determined that Darkseid would win any confrontation with Thanos. While both of them have a number of powers at their disposal, Thanos falls short of matching Darkseid, even with the Infinity Gauntlet. The justification for that is the Infinity Gauntlet only works in its own universe, so if the fight was happening in the DC universe, it would be useless against Darkseid.
Even if the fight was in the Marvel universe, the gauntlet wouldn't be effective because Darkseid's body isn't his true form. It's just an avatar that he uses to limit his own power while in another universe. Darkseid's true form is an energy being who resides in the Fourth World, and can't leave his home dimension -- otherwise, his immense power would shatter reality.
So yeah, that trumps a purple dude who needs rocks to be a god; Darkside just is one.
