Captain Marvel’s Pre-Sales Are Among The MCU’s Best
Superhero movies are the most popular genre in filmmaking, with droves of loyal fans willing to shell out cash and see the next comic book adaptation on the silver screen. Given the scale and budget of these projects, it stands to reason that even casual moviegoers would prefer to see these projects in theaters. As such, franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been able to make insane amounts of money over the years.
The next installment in the MCU is Captain Marvel, starring Oscar winner Brie Larson as the title character. Despite being the last movie before the phase-ending Avengers: Endgame, anticipation for the 1990's intergalactic adventure has been steadily building. And with tickets now on sale, it's already one of the MCU's top 3 pre-sale performers on multiple ticketing sites.
One of the sites that Captain Marvel is already breaking records for is good old Fandango. While pre-sale tickets for Captain Marvel went up just days ago, the upcoming blockbuster is already the third biggest pre-sale Marvel movie. It trails just behind Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, which are two of the most popular installments in the entire shared universe.
Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis made a statement about Captain Marvel's outstanding pre-sale performance, saying:
Erik Davis seems to believe that Fandango users are snatching up tickets for Captain Marvel partially because it is breaking new ground for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Add on her upcoming role in Avengers: Endgame, and fans are eager to meet Carol Danvers and see her vast powers in action.
But Fandango isn't the only ticket service seeing impressive pre-sales for Captain Marvel. Atom Tickets also revealed that they've seen big numbers from the upcoming origin story. Captain Marvel is second on the pre-sales list, with only Infinity War beating it. But considering that the movie is still weeks out, Captain Marvel has the potential to win out and take Atom's number 1 Marvel spot.
One thing is clear from these reports: moviegoers can't wait for Captain Marvel to arrive in theaters. The penultimate installment in Phase Three, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's Marvel debut will be a capsulated time piece, while also helping to flesh out MCU favorites like Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, Ronan, and Korath.
