It had been rumored for a long time and it didn't surprise some people, but Ben Affleck officially retired himself as Batman in the DCEU. With Matt Reeves' Batman solo film set to arrive in theaters in 2021, we'll soon have a new actor step into the iconic role. The search for a new Batman is going to get tons of attention from fans and the media, but one actor is trying to get ahead of the pack: Joey Lawrence.
The former Disney star is seriously gunning for that cowl and took to social media to gain extra support from his fans.
Joey Lawrence is an actor who first got into the business as a kid. He was the voice of Oliver in Disney's animated film Oliver & Company. If you were an avid watcher of the Disney Channel back in the '90s, you probably saw him appearing in a few TV and movie roles, alongside his brothers Andrew and Matthew, such as the Disney Channel Original Movie Horse Sense. Lawrence is perhaps best known for his role as Joey Russo on the sitcom Blossom.
Of course, Joey Lawrence is still acting these days. He previously starred on Melissa and Joey on ABC Family alongside Melissa Joan Hart, and just recently competed on Season 2 of Celebrity Big Brother on CBS.
The thrills of a CBS reality competition show aren't enough to satiate Joey Lawrence, and the actor REALLY wants to be Batman in the DCEU. Lawrence is trying to drum up support from his fans to get himself a shot at the Caped Crusader. The actor took to Instagram to rally his fans and get them to sign a petition to help get his foot in the door.
If you want to sign the petition (or just look at it), you can check it out here.
Joey Lawrence has been posting about Batman for a little while now, sharing his dream on playing the character. In a previous post, he urged Warner Bros. to "take a chance" and pick a choice that is outside of the box. He compares the situation to when Marvel Studios hired a then schlubby sitcom goofball Chris Pratt for Guardians of the Galaxy. It's certainly an uphill battle for Lawrence, but more power to him.

Whether it's Joey Lawrence or not, an actor will need to be found soon as The Batman gets closer to production. Matt Reeves has previously said that the movie is an original noir-inspired story that puts emphasis on Batman's detective skills. Warner Bros. is looking for a younger actor to take on the role, and there's no shortage of capable actors fit for the part.
The Batman is slated to arrive in theaters on June 25, 2021. For everything else DC has in the works, here are the upcoming DC movies.
