Marvel Fan Claims To Have Seen Avengers: Endgame 110 Times
It may have an over three-hour runtime, but Avengers: Endgame is one of those movies that demands to be rewatched on the big screen. Whether it’s to see a fellow Marvel fan witness its memorable moments, or catch another look at its massive fight sequence. Or in Agustin Alanis’ case, break a world record.
During Endgame’s month and a half in theaters, the Marvel fan has bought a ticket to 110 showings of the movie, surpassing the record for the most times a person has watched the same movie in theaters. The previous record was held by Anthony Mitchell for viewing Avengers: Infinity War 103 times in theaters last year. Agustin Alanis tied with Mitchell on Sunday, and commemorated it with the following Twitter post:
Agustin Alanis has been logging each one of his trips to see Endgame with a photo of himself with a ticket, and oftentimes with a member of the theater’s staff. With his post, he revealed Mitchell as an inspiration for his accomplishment. The previous record-holder caught the attention of the Russo Brothers, who invited him to the set of Endgame during reshoots and the April premiere. He was also given 50 free movie tickets from IMAX, to which he invited 49 people to a screening of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Just one day after hitting 103 views, Agustin Alanis posted seven more viewings of Endgame, placing him well over the record and sure to make 2019’s Guinness Book of World Records, as Mitchell had the year before. Check out his latest viewing last night:
No wonder Endgame is likely to beat out Avatar for the highest-grossing movie of all time before the end of its theatrical run! One man alone is heavily contributing to its box office dollars and while no one else looks to have sat through the movie as many hours as he has, there are tons of fans going back for repeated viewings.
Endgame just made $4.8 million during its seventh weekend in theaters, still contending in the top 10 and now at $2.73 billion worldwide. In comparison, Avatar holds the record at $2.78 billion, placing around $56 million between them. The packed summer season has slowed down the movie from hitting the record as films such as Aladdin, John Wick 3 and Detective Pikachu opened in June.
Other summer releases such as Toy Story 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home soon hitting theaters also stints its No. 1 record, although the latter could boost its performance as Endgame did for Captain Marvel.
