Dave Bautista On Bane Fan Theories: ‘I Accept’
In the last five years, Dave Bautista has gathered a lot of acting credits, but he’s still arguably best known for playing Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the former WWE star is game for lending his talents to the DC Extended Universe, too, specifically by playing Batman adversary Bane.
After it was announced in January that James Gunn would write and direct The Suicide Squad, rumors emerged that Gunn might recruit Dave Bautista for a role in the sequel/reboot/whatever it is. While early rumors indicated Bautista was being looked at to play Peacemaker, many fans felt he would make a good Bane in the DCEU, and now that fan casting has popped into Bautista’s radar.
Here’s what Dave Bautista had to say to a fan on Twitter who supported the idea of him playing Bane, whether it’s in The Suicide Squad, The Batman or a different movie.
You hear that, DCEU brass? If you’re tossing around the idea of introducing Bane to this superhero franchise, you might consider putting Dave Bautista on your list of actors to look at. He certainly has the physicality for the role.
While it is fun to imagine Dave Bautista playing Bane, particularly if this Bane is more faithful to the one from the comics compared to the versions seen in Batman & Robin and The Dark Knight Rises, keep in mind that for right now, there are no plans to bring the character into the DCEU. Regarding The Suicide Squad, the new characters who’ve been unveiled far include Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher, Peacemaker and King Shark.
As for The Batman, while director and writer Matt Reeves has said the movie will features a rogues gallery, folks like Penguin, Catwoman and Riddler have been rumored or reported to show up, not Bane. That’s not to say Bane couldn’t appear in a sequel or even a different corner of the DCEU, but publicly at least, it doesn’t appear to there’s any rush to adapt him for this continuity.
At least one thing we can count on is Dave Bautista immediately nixed as a candidate for Bane simply because he’s already played a comic book character. As we’ve seen in recent years with actors like Zachary Levi and Josh Brolin, just because you brought someone to life in one comic book franchise doesn’t mean you can’t leave your stamp on another afterwards or even simultaneously.
