Kevin Smith Thanked Chris Hemsworth For Thor’s Endgame Appearance
Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame
Out of Endgame’s jam-packed twists and shocks for the franchise one glaring moment sticks with us: Thor’s unexpected story arc. After the Avengers were unsuccessful in saving half the universe from Thanos’ snap, the God of Thunder slipped into a depression, leading to dependence on alcohol, carbs and online gaming. Thus the origin story of “Fat Thor” began.
While some felt Endgame’s use of jokes toward Thor’s packed on pounds was insensitive, others have commended the franchise for finally showing a superhero without a perfectly-sculpted body. Chris Hemsworth recently revealed one celebrity who took the time to praise his performance. In his words:
That’s right! For once, it may be a bit refreshing for audiences to see a famed superhero kick butt with a more realistic physique on the big screen, as the Clerks director pointed out. Thor’s story in Endgame also highlighted a hero who had lost and was having trouble dealing with it in a healthy manner. So he turns to his vices in order to cope. It’s a relatable struggle that goes beyond that is typically shown in Marvel films.
Chris Hemsworth also reportedly fought to keep Thor’s new physique for the final battle against Thanos in Endgame, instead of him buffing back up for the epic scene. You can watch the actor talk about his Thor transformation on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon below:
As shown in the clip, Chris Hemsworth really got into the depressed and overweight version of his character, even turning to Johnny Cash’s somber tune “Hurt” for inspiration during the shooting of Endgame. The actor has undergone a few other transformations for his Thor over the years, such as cutting off his hair and taking on a more comedic role in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Hemsworth’s ever-changing hero has helped revitalize the character and keep audiences intrigued in what he’ll do next.
While it’s unclear when and if Thor will return to the MCU in the future, considering the conclusion of Endgame, he could quite possibly join Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. When CinemaBlend pitched the idea for him to return for “Asguardians of the Galaxy” while he was promoting Men in Black: International, here’s what he said:

The question is this: would “Fat Thor” return for his next appearance in a Marvel film or would he go back to his typically perfect self? Seeing him team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy would be an exciting next adventure for Thor, especially since he shows great chemistry with Rocket.
First, Chris Hemsworth reteams up with fellow Asguardian, Tessa Thompson for Men in Black International in theaters now.
