Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Fan Theory Ties Rey To Kylo, Luke And Jedi School
There's really no film franchise quite as massively popular as Star Wars. George Lucas' colorful space opera has thrilled moviegoers for decades, with entire generations growing up on the galaxy far, far away. And once Disney acquired Lucasfilm, those fan were treated to new and exciting installments in the property, starting with The Force Awakens.
J.J. Abrams helped kickstart the franchise back up with The Force Awakens, and he'll end the trilogy and the entire Skywalker Saga with The Rise of Skywalker. The stakes couldn't be higher, and there's no telling what twists and turns will be used to wrap up the story. A new fan theory indicates that Rey, Kylo Ren, and Luke share a closer bond than we realize. Namely, that Rey was part of Luke's Jedi Academy before his falling out with Kylo Ren.
This new theory comes to us from Inverse.com, and is largely built on the series of flashbacks shared between Luke and Kylo Ren throughout the course of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. A high pitched scream can be heard as the walls around the hut collapse, and it's that noise that is making some fans believe that Daisy Ridley's Rey was actually there all along.
Of course, there are a few variables related to this fan storyline that need to be discussed. Rey is obviously not shown on screen, so that high pitched noise might not necessarily come from her. The theory claims that the scream was similar to the one Rey had in her vision in The Force Awakens, therefore linking her mysterious past with Luke's history with Ben Solo.

But if Rey was one of Luke's Jedi pupils, what happened to her memory? One possible answer could be that Luke used his Jedi Mind tricks to mess with her memory, and therefore potentially keep her safe from Kylo Ren. Although that would make his conflict and relationship with Rey in The Last Jedi largely a farce. Why would he be so scared of her power if Luke is the one who trained her?

The odds may be somewhat stacked up against this new theory, but that shouldn't stop the rabid Star Wars fanbase from talking through every possible option leading up to the release of The Rise of Skywalker. Fan theories have become commonplace for major blockbusters like Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They help to satiate moviegoers while they wait for each new release, even if most of them tend not to come to fruition.
But it seems like almost anything could happen in The Rise of Skywalker. In typical Star Wars fashion, the movie's contents are being kept under wraps. The trailer teased an exciting final outing, with Palpatine's laugh indicating that the narrative possibilities were wide open. Now we just have to wait a few more months to see how the Skywalker Saga ends.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
