Remember Ashton Kutcher’s Punk’d and the Jackass movies? Pranks and gross-out gags may just may have found its comeback in Bad Trip, an upcoming comedy that has Eric André, Lil Rel Howery and Tiffany Haddish fooling real people of their insane pranks with their wacky characters’ antics.

Didn’t I mention it was insane? The movie is a scripted buddy comedy has sees two friends (André and Howery) going on a cross-country road trip with a hot pink car they’ve stolen from the sister of Lil Rel’s character (Haddish). Tiffany Haddish is a criminal who ironically breaks out of jail just in time for her to track them down.
The premise looks to create some hilarious and ridiculous situations for the actors to play with. Bad Trip claims the reactions from pranks such as a car vacuum sucking off André’s clothes or his hand going into a blender are “really fucking real”. Hey, why pay for extras when you can pull off shocking situations like this and just wait and see what goes down.
As opposed to movies of this genre before, Bad Trip looks to follow a loose script that sets up these crazy situations for the actor’s characters. They aren’t playing themselves. As an example, Tiffany Haddish is taking on a caricature of a criminal coming straight from prison.
As she hangs Eric André from the top of a building she hilariously tells everyone to mind their own business she’s “from the streets” before a woman responds with “People from the streets don’t hang people from buildings”.
Other memorable moments in the trailer include when a group of people witness Tiffany Haddish “breaking out of prison”, a man breaking the door off a cop car and driving away in it, Eric André drunkenly falling and running through a glass door. Lil Rel Howery tipping while in a porta potty and an exploding car accident.
One has to wonder how any of the on-lookers don’t recognize the stars from their popular work. Tiffany Haddish has starred in a number of comedies including Night School and Girls Trip, Eric André from his five season Adult Swim comedy with Hannibal Buress, The Eric André Show and will soon be seen contributing his voice talents to The Lion King. Lil Rel Howery starred in Jordan Peele’s Get Out and the viral Netflix film Bird Box.
Bad Trip was written by Jeff Tremaine, who helmed all of the Jackass films and is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who worked on the Eric Andre Show. Fans of the comedy series known to be weird and fascinating premises will certainly eat this movie up, now that the show is no longer on the air.
All and all, Bad Trip looks absolutely bonkers and it’s coming to theaters on October 25, 2019.
