Disney Is Reportedly ‘Unimpressed’ With The New Mutants
Disney's officially acquired 20th Century Fox and its assets in March, but the details and affects of this massive deal are still being revealed. One of the biggest questions revolving around the merger is how the X-Men franchise and its characters will be handled. Dark Phoenix was a box office bomb, with the House of Mouse losing some of their investment in the process. And it seems that the studio isn't pleased with the quality of Josh Boone's The New Mutants.
The New Mutants was going to be a game changer for the X-Men franchise, focusing on a new young cast and infused with elements of horror. The movie was also rumored to be rated R, showing 20th Century Fox's ability to take risks within the mutant-centric property. But a new report about Disney's plans for the future indicate that Disney is 'unimpressed' withe current state of the spinoff.
This reported information, which comes to us from Variety, is sure to be discouraging to the moviegoers and X-Men fans who have been waiting years for The New Mutants to finally hit theaters. The blockbuster's first trailer hit back in October of 2017, and instantly drummed up excitement for Josh Boone's genre-bending movie. Unfortunately it was hit with a series of delays, partly due to the merger between Fox and Disney.
To date, The New Mutants has been pushed back a whopping three times, and is currently slated for a April 3, 2020 release date. But the movie is going to need a ton of work if that's going to happen. Reshoots still haven't been done, so the actors will need to be booked for their long awaited return to the project. And with all the delays, smart moneys ays the visual affects are far from completed.

The reshoots for The New Mutants might give director Josh Boone and company the opportunity to make some major changes to the blockbuster, and hopefully please Disney in the process. Fox's wide releases haven't been faring well lately, including Dark Phoenix and The Art of Racing in the Rain. If the rumors are true and the studio is unhappy, it might mean disaster for the film's theatrical release.
Since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, there's been a ton of discussion regarding The New Mutants' fate. No concrete updates have been provided, with the young cast dropping F-bombs and expressing that they're in the dark about the movie's future.
