Kevin Hart Is Getting His Own Superhero Movie
Kevin Hart is a busy, busy man. His star ever rising, he’s had a surprise hit with The Upside, a family crowd-pleaser with The Secret Life of Pets 2, and a not-so-secret anymore cameo in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. So what could possibly be missing from his dance card at this point? You guessed right: a superhero movie, and now he’s going to have one of those, as well!
Before you, the audience, start dream casting who Hart might best fit in the DC or Marvel universes, his own superpowered film, entitled Night Wolf is a bit different. This new project is being described as a superhero movie combined with Meet The Parents, as the narrative will show what happens when a man meets his fiancée’s parents for the first time, only to find out that her father is a true blooded super.
The film is being set up between studio STX, the recent home for Kevin Hart’s The Upside, and the actor’s personal production label HartBeat Productions. Naturally, Hart will also produce the film, and no other casting or plot details have been announced at this time. Though it’s presumed that he’ll be playing the role of the fiancée in Night Wolf, as that seems to be the role that would best fit his brand of schtick.
Some interesting trivia that makes Night Wolf all the more interesting is that both sides of its pedigree are areas that Kevin Hart has had direct experience with. In terms of superheroes, Hart was not only in the spoof film Superhero Movie, but his animation resume saw him star in Captain Underpants: The First Adventure, as well as his character Snowball becoming a costumed vigilante himself in The Secret Life of Pets 2.
As for the whole Meet The Parents aspect, Kevin Hart found himself in a brush with that particular franchise as well. The final film, Little Fockers, boasted a performance of his in the role of Nurse Louis, so you could literally say that he is the perfect man for this job. Though if Ben Stiller were to show up for an audition, that claim could be contested.
It’s too early to really know what’s going to happen with Night Wolf, despite its promising announcement via EW. A big reason behind that is the fact that STX is currently going through a bit of a financial crisis after the flop of Uglydolls. There’s a chance that this film’s fate could change, but if there’s anything that’s going to get this project off the ground, it’s Kevin Hart’s currency with audiences and the film industry. About the project, Hard said in a statement:
Night Wolf doesn’t have a concrete release date or production start in mind, but you can see Kevin Hart as Air Marshall Dinkley in Hobbs & Shaw. A role that, if fate allows, will see him joining yet another universe where gravity is optional.
