ReelBlend #80: Talking Bruce Springsteen With Blinded By The Light's Gurinder Chadha
We have been enjoying a solid run of music-based dramas at the movie theater lately. The music of The Beatles powered Danny Boyle’s Yesterday, while Rami Malek found Oscar success playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
This week, it’s The Boss – aka Bruce Springsteen – who is getting the big screen treatment courtesy of the musical fantasy Blinded By the Light, a true story about a British teen who discovers the music and lyrics of Springsteen, and finds an unlikely muse. The movie’s a winner, an uplifting crowdpleaser directed by Bend it Like Beckham filmmaker Gurinder Chadha – who we are lucky enough to have as a guest on this week’s show.
Chadha joined the show shortly after Bruce Springsteen himself showed up at her film’s premiere in Asbury Park, New Jersey. She had amazing stories to tell about that evening, and the film’s production, so press play on this week’s ReelBlend episode and enjoy.
Before they got into the conversation with Gurinder Chadha, Jake, Kevin and Sean discussed the new trailer that dropped for Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, which you can see below.
Then Kevin told a really funny story about an old couple who mistakenly watched Good Boys. That did not end well.
As for this week’s Blend Game, the guys got into the films of Richard Linklater, and Jake did NOT pick a Texas movie. We were all shocked.
