Director John Crowley figured that out when he tapped the Oscar winner to shoot The Goldfinch, his adaptation of Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. And it’s something that has been proven over the years by filmmakers like Joel and Ethan Coen and Sam Mendes.
