Jurassic World 3 Officially Bringing Back Original Jurassic Park Stars
The casting department, uhhhhhhhhh, finds a way! Jeff Goldblum appeared ever so briefly in the second installment of the revived Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. But it was a glorified cameo, a tease for fans of Steven Spielberg’s original. Now, however, it has been revealed that Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill are returning for Jurassic World 3 in what director Colin Trevorrow is calling “a major role.” Here’s video of the announcement.
The Jurassic World franchise has always honored the roots formed in the original series, going so far as to include BD Wong from the initial trilogy as a key component in Colin Trevorrow’s revised Jurassic World. In that film, the science behind the failed Jurassic Park has been improved, leading to the creation of a Walt Disney World-esque theme park. Naturally, things go awry, with deadly results.
Colin Trevorrow made the casting announcement for Jurassic World 3 at a fan-event screening of the new short film Battle at Big Rock, an official clip meant to show audiences how bad things have gotten since the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. If you didn’t recall, that sequel ended with the release of several genetically altered dinosaurs into our society. The fear from the original series had come to life. The dinosaurs are now on the mainland and free to roam, walking the Earth once again. That HAS to be bad news for humans, right?
Catch up on that short film right now:
But ever since Trevorrow brought the Jurassic franchise back to life with Jurassic World, true fans have been waiting for the announcement that original stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum would return in a significant fashion. The Goldblum tease in Fallen Kingdom whet everyone’s whistle. This, finally, is the main course, and probably the ideal way to close out this series for good.
Plot details on Jurassic World 3 remain under wraps. As mentioned, we know that dinosaurs are loose in the world now, and that humans are dealing with the consequences of having to share our environment with killer beasts.
This plot point was touched on in the second film in the overall franchise, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, which saw a T-Rex on the loose in San Diego.
