While we all eagerly await the full trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we are left to look for clues about the film’s story wherever we can find them. As is often the case, some of those clues are coming courtesy of merchandise for the film, which will soon be hitting store shelves in advance of the movie’s December premiere. One new piece of Star Wars merch actually teases Kylo Ren’s story in The Rise of Skywalker.
October 4 is Triple Force Friday, when a slew of new Star Wars products from The Mandalorian TV series, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and of course Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released. For the latter title, a new Kylo Ren action figure is coming out, and the card back for the action figure features a character description that teases Kylo’s story in the film. The description reads:
As Supreme Leader of the First Order, Kylo Ren wields more power than ever before. Nevertheless, Ren continues to search for secrets of the Force from the depths of the dark side.
The blurb offers further insight into what exactly Kylo Ren will be up to in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. At the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Supreme Leader Snoke was dead and as General Hux made clear when he addressed him as such, Kylo Ren is now the new Supreme Leader of the First Order.
No longer talked down to by Snoke and forced to do his bidding, nor obligated to work side by side with Hux, the unhinged Ben Solo doesn’t have to answer to anyone anymore. In addition to his own Force powers, Kylo now has the full might of the First Order at his disposal. As the description (via Star Wars News Net) reads, that means he wields more power than ever before, but it seems that Kylo Ren is not content with his newfound power. In fact, he’s still looking for something, literally.
Based on this action figure card-back description, Kylo Ren will be reaching deep into the Dark Side, looking for secrets of the Force. That is in keeping with some of the rumors that have come out about the film. Kylo Ren will be looking for something in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ are still questions that must be solved.
Is Kylo Ren looking for a specific item (a MacGuffin hunt?) or a person, or is he simply seeking out further knowledge of the Dark Side of the Force, as Luke once did with the Light, in order to solidify his position? Is Kylo Ren searching for Sith artifacts of some nature and to what end? There's also the possibility Kylo's search could be linked to Emperor Palpatine in some way. Is Kylo searching for Darth Sidious or is he searching for something for him?
Whatever the case, it looks like Kylo Ren is a man on a mission in The Rise of Skywalker and that mission will take him further and further away from the light. For that mission he’ll also be flying around in a stealthy new TIE Fighter with a badass name.
