Another work week has come and gone, and with it five days for movies to premiere new trailers. Every week comes with a new set of these teases, with some studios revealing the first look at upcoming releases, while others reveal the second or third trailers. This doesn't only relate to theatrical releases, but movies coming to streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu.
But with so many trailers consistently hitting the internet, it's easy for even the most dedicated cinephiles to miss one. But fear not, at CinemaBlend has been curating a list of these clips, as the marketing for upcoming movies amps up in order to get audience excitement. These are some of the trailers you might have missed this week, including some highly anticipated releases coming from the House of Mouse.
Frozen II
This one is a movie six years in the making. Disney's Frozen II will hit theaters this coming November, catching up with the denizens of Arendelle. Fans are eager to see Anna and Elsa's next adventure, especially as the highly anticipated sequel will greatly expand the franchise's scope. Disney is methodical about its marketing, so footage from Frozen II has been slowly trickling out as we get closer to Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee's movie hitting theaters. This is the second trailer, providing more stunning footage and hints at the plot.
The sequel will feature the return of beloved cast member Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff, and Santino Fontana. Frozen II will also introduce new characters, while delving into the origin of Elsa's ice powers. Newcomers include Evan Rachel Wood, Alfred Molina, and Sterling K. Brown. The movie will finally arrive in theaters on November 22nd.
Uncut Gems
As the fall months continue on, more and more Oscar hopefuls will be hitting theaters, hoping to drum up buzz ahead of official Academy voting in the spring. Some of these projects had early debuts at film festival, including Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie's upcoming drama Uncut Gems. Uncut Gems stars Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, a jewelry store owner and compulsive gambler. The trailer teases a tense crime thriller, as Howard attempts to pay off the various forces in his life who are looking for money. There has been some early talks about Sandler getting a possible Oscar nomination for the role, although he's joined by other big names. Familiar faces include Idina Menzel, Guardians of the Galaxy's Pom Klementieff, and recording artist The Weeknd. Uncut Gems will hit theaters on December 13, just in time for the holidays.
American Son
Over the past few years, Netflix has been consistently putting out movie content, in addition to the countless TV shows being produced by the streaming service. One of the movies that will be available to stream at the start of November is American Son, starring Kerry Washington. An adaptation of the Broadway play of the same name, the drama follows a set of parents as they seek out their missing son. The entire cast from the 2018 Broadway run are reprising their roles in the Netflix movie, including Supergirl's Jeremy Jordan. The trailer is intense and emotional, and Scandal fans will no doubt be thrilled with watching Kerry Washington display her full gamut of emotions in the upcoming movie. American Son will available to stream on Netflix starting on November 1st.
The Irishman
Martin Scorsese's The Irishman is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the fall, with a stellar cast and cutting edge visual effects making his story a reality. The movie follows the life of Robert De Niro's Frank Sheeran, a hitman for the mob. De Niro will play Frank throughout the years of Frank's life, with CGI being used to digitally de-age the cast. It's got a massive budget as a result, as well as at on of buzz. Scorsese assembled a killer cast, including Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, and Ray Romano. The movie recently got its premiere at the New York Film Festival, and has been universally applauded by those lucky enough to be at that first screening. We'll just have to see if it fares as well with general audiences and critics when it hits Netflix on November 1st.
Wounds
From one streaming service to another. Wounds is an upcoming psychological horror movie hitting Hulu next month. Based on the novella The Visible Filth, Babak Anvari's movie focuses on a bartender in New Orleans whose life goes into chaos following a bar fight. He finds a cell phone left behind during the violence incident, full of disturbing photos. And afterward, things start to get really crazy. The trailer is full of unsettling imagery, with Wounds arriving just in time for Halloween season. Armie Hammer plays the protagonist Will, and he's joined by Fifty Shades' Dakota Johnson, Deadpool 2's Zazie Beetz, and Orange is the New Black's Brad William Henke. Wounds will be available to stream on Hulu October 18th, possibly with the lights on.
Spies in Disguise
On a lighter note, the third trailer for the upcoming animated family movie Spies in Disguise also arrived this week. Directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, the upcoming animated comedy follows a super cools spy named Lance Sterling, voiced by Will Smith. Sterling is basically an animated James Bond, and he works with a young technological genius, voiced by Tom Holland. But something goes wrong in the development of new tech, and Sterling is transformed into a pigeon. He must try to save the day as the everyday bird, and eventually transform back into his suave human self. Also featured in the cast is Rashida Jones, Guardians of the Galaxy's Karen Gillan, Ben Mendelsohn, Heroes alum Masi Oka, Reba McEntire, and DJ Khaled. Spies in Disguise will hit theaters in time for Christmas on December 25th.
Another week, another set of trailers. While it may be a while before we get a release from the MCU or DCEU (technically Joker doesn't count), there are still plenty of exciting movies coming down the pipeline over the next few months. The holiday movie season is really picking up, with some of the upcoming releases vying for nominations when Awards Ceremony voters began picking which projects to mention.
