What To Expect From Rose Tico In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
When we met her in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico was serving as a mechanic within The Resistance. However, not only did a lot happen in that movie that resulted in nearly all of The Resistance being destroyed, but a year will have passed between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, and when we reunite with her in the latter movie, she’ll be much higher up within The Resistance hierarchy.
In addition to the Triple Force Friday preview event showing off the many toys and merchandise for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that will be available for purchase soon, some of the characters’ costumes were also showcased, which came with new details about what we can expect from said characters. Here’s what was said about Rose Tico (via SFX Magazine):
Although Rose Tico was worse for wear at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi due to risking her life to save Finn, she was back up on her feet soon after, and in the year since then, she’s now one of The Resistance’s most important leaders. The Resistance is still fighting the good fight against The First Order, but their numbers still aren’t anywhere near what they used to be, requiring them to change their battle tactics. That also means more important than ever to ensure that their equipment is functioning properly, and Rose certainly has the skills and expertise to oversee that.
We also saw how Rose Tico was willing to put her life on the line out in the field several times over, so even though her primary job is working not technology, perhaps like in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, she’ll be thrust back into action in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Either way, there hasn’t been any glimpse of Rose in the Rise of Skywalker footage released so far, so it’s good to get an update on her status in the movie, and ideally she’ll appear in the next trailer.
Frankly, even with over two months to go until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s release, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the plot. There have been plenty of teases, from seeing Dark Rey to the late Emperor Palpatine somehow being involved in the proceedings, but Lucasfilm is keeping up its tradition of keeping story details close to the chest.
What we do know for a fact is however things play out in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it’ll result in both the end of the war between The Resistance and The First Order, and the conflict between The Jedi and The Sith. New Star Wars movies will continue to be released, but The Rise of Skywalker unquestionably marks the end of an era.
Along with Rose Tico being joined by plenty of familiar faces, from Rey, Finn and Poe to Leia Organa and Lando Calrissian, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is also introducing new characters like Naomi Ackie’s Jannah, Richard E. Grant’s Allegiant General Pryde and Keri Russell’s Zorri Bliss. J.J. Abrams returned to direct The Rise of Skywalker following Colin Trevorrow’s exit, and he worked on the script with Chris Terrio.
