Next year, Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially begins with Black Widow from director Cate Shortland. The solo film featuring Scarlett Johansson’s character will show what happened to her between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Although it is still a ways off and doesn’t arrive until May, it looks like Black Widow is already doing reshoots.
It is well known that many Marvel Studios films shoot in Georgia, and it seems that a film shoot in the Peach State’s Bibb County may very well be for the next MCU film. A film shoot is closing down roads in downtown Macon, Georgia this week and although there are no giant signs saying ‘Black Widow filming here!’, there are some clues that indicate these road closings are accommodating Black Widow’s reshoots.
According to 13WMAZ, the project shooting in Macon is going by the name Blue Bayou and while that could technically be an original movie or a feature film adaptation of the Disneyland restaurant, it’s probably Black Widow. Black Widow has already been shooting under the code name Blue Bayou so it’s a safe bet this is that film’s reshoots.
Furthermore, the production’s contract with the city of Macon in Bibb County basically spells it out, not leaving much to interpretation. The city’s contract is with Romanoff Productions and seeing as how Scarlett Johansson’s character’s real name is Natasha Romanoff, the truth is in plain sight. You would think Marvel would have went for a deeper cut or been more clandestine for a movie about a former spy, but I suppose you can only do so much to hide a massive movie production.
Romanoff Productions is also based at the Burbank office of Walt Disney Studios and there are some other indications in the contracts as well that this is Black Widow. We don’t know what these reshoots entail or what exactly is being filmed in Macon, but 13WMAZ was on the scene to poke around.
The two-day shoot is taking place at the Terminal Station in Macon. The historic railroad station was built in 1916 and although it is no longer a functioning railroad station, the beautiful and architecturally significant building was restored in 2014 and now serves as an event venue, for fundraisers, weddings and apparently film shoots. Looking at images of the building, it definitely looks like the kind of place you might see in a spy film, like something in the Mission: Impossible or Bourne franchises.
Outside of the terminal station, the production has special effects equipment set up, as well as police cars, ambulances and SWAT vehicles. So whatever is going down in Black Widow at this location, it gets serious and won’t be a smooth, clandestine spy operation. We're in for some serious action here I'm guessing. Whatever it is, it looks like Black Widow is moving along, filming reshoots (a standard thing in productions of this size) for its May release.
