Gwyneth Paltrow Admits She’s Never Watched Spider-Man: Homecoming
The past month has had Spidey fans in a cold sweat over Tom Holland’s future on the big screen as the Web-Slinger, following disagreements between Disney and Sony. Not Gwyneth Paltrow. Is the true secret to glowing skin casually forgetting the Spider-Man franchise exists? A conscious uncoupling from Peter Parker? The actress/Goop founder and CEO has unintentionally made it clear over the past few months she’s not the closest observer of her role in the vast MCU. Now it’s confirmed, because in regards to Spider-Man: Homecoming, here’s what Paltrow said:
Oops! Gwyneth Paltrow admitted this on Jimmy Kimmel Live! before immediately regretting it. "Cut it out!" she jokingly said on the broadcast in remorse. (A moment of silence for Tom Holland.) It was this past summer on Netflix’s The Chef Show when Jon Favreau first mentioned the movie title to Paltrow. He asked the actress about the time when they were on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming alongside Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr., and she completely drew a blank. Check out the viral video:
The Iron Man actress explained the hilarious moment with these words:
Now in her defense, she has an incredibly small role in the 2017 Spider-Man film. She shows up briefly at the end of the film to drag in Tony and Peter into a press conference. Favreau’s Happy pulls out an engagement ring instead for them to announce when Parker decides to slow his Avengers roll. But… this isn’t Gwyneth’s first rodeo. She’s appeared in six other MCU movies, but Homecoming and Tom Holland are the primary examples of her Marvel memory lapses, though certainly not the only ones.
She’s also apparently plucked Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan from her memory a time or two and asked the other Avengers: Endgame cast what Samuel L. Jackson was doing at the funeral scene. That’s right, even Nick Fury is subject to the actress’ confusion. With that in mind, I don’t think she’s really seen the MCU movies, period.
Since her involvement with the Marvel films, Gwyneth Paltrow been placing her main focus on growing her lifestyle brand, Goop. She founded the company in 2008 – right when Iron Man was hitting theaters. Since then, she appeared in the rest of the Iron Man trilogy with Robert Downey Jr, three Avenger films and her short scene in Homecoming. She’s done less acting over the years since and mostly fizzled out of the MCU, along with being a mother of two and a newlywed.
But Gwyneth Paltrow is still an actor! She stars in the new Netflix hit The Politician with Ben Platt, Zoey Deutch and Lucy Boynton, currently available to stream.
