The Suicide Squad's Peter Capaldi Looks Unrecognizable In New Set Photo
The Suicide Squad gathered some rogues last weekend for the Joker premiere, but Peter Capaldi was missing from that photo. We don't know exactly who he's playing in James Gunn's DC movie, but the Doctor Who alum's new look should be a hint. Turns out, Peter Capaldi is barely Peter Capaldi without that mop of hair or with his eyes hidden behind sunglasses.
With close-cut platinum hair, shades, and a T-shirt, he looks more like ... Paul Bettany? I would've figured Mayling Ng was hanging out with Vision in a Marvel/DC crossover if she didn't point out 61-year-old Peter Capaldi in her Instagram caption.
I guess once you already know it's Peter Capaldi you can see it, from his nose to his grimace-smile. On a different note, man does Mayling Ng look amazing. The martial artist played Orana in Wonder Woman and she's also playing an as-yet-unnamed character in The Suicide Squad.
Mayling Ng was in James Gunn's group photo last week for Joker's premiere. Since she was hanging out with Peter Capaldi for this new photo, is it safe to assume they have scenes together in The Suicide Squad, which just started filming?
Also, who is Peter Capaldi playing? He previously teased that he would be going almost totally bald for the role and making room for prosthetics. I've seen fans speculating that he might play Mr. Freeze/Victor Fries or maybe Psimon/Dr. Simon Jones, or even Lex Luthor.
He certainly doesn't look like his Doctor Who or even In the Loop self (tell me you've seen In the Loop -- my god, the man is a comic genius), which is probably why the kids call it "acting." He also looks pretty fit, just in a different way than Mayling Ng. That guy is 61? Good for him. Age really is nothing more than a number.
The cast is huge, so if Peter Capaldi is indeed playing a villain, he probably isn't alone. James Gunn revealed a main cast of 24 names a couple of weeks ago, but he also warned us not to get too attached. He's keeping his cards close when it comes to the overall story, and in confirming the characters the new stars will play. So far, we just have rumors and speculation. We know the returnees -- which do not include Jared Leto's Joker -- will be picking up their Suicide Squad characters, but Gunn has been careful not to call this a sequel or a reboot.

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
