Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker's First Look At Dominic Monaghan Is Certainly 'Curious'

Even with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker just a little over two months away from release, Lucasfilm is still keeping plenty of secrets about it close to the proverbial chest. One of those is how Lost and Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan fits into the picture, but now we finally have our first look at his character, and as the actor put it, we should be curious.

As you can see, Dominic Monaghan accompanied his Instagram post of his Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker character with the hashtag #becurious. Judging by that outfit, his character is likely either working for The Resistance or is a member of the galaxy far, far away’s criminal underworld.

Then again, there’s also the possibility he could be an undercover operative for The First Order. Now that you mention it, Dominic, yeah, we’re very curious about who you were hired to play in the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga.

This look at Dominic Monaghan’s character was part of the Triple Force Friday rollout, when the merchandise for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker finally becoming available to the public. Given that we’re not that far off from the film’s release, it’s unclear if we’ll learn any specific details about this well-armed, Act 1-centric player between then and now, but it’d be nice if some footage of him was included in the next trailer.

Dominic Monaghan is one of the four main new faces being introduced in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the other three being Naomi Ackie as Jannah, an ally to the Resistance; Richard E. Grant as Allegiant General Pryde, one of The First Order’s top officers; and Keri Russell as Zorro Bliss, a criminal who’s an old friend of Poe Dameron’s.

At one point it was also reported that Doctor Who star Matt Smith has signed on to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and while the actor later denied this, there’s still speculation about if he might truly be involved. Even if that's not the case, surely most fans walking out of the movie will be enamored with at least one of these fresh faces.

Picking up one year after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which saw The Resistance being almost completely wiped out by The First Order, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees the remnants of the benevolent group continuing its fight against The First Order in a galaxy that was inspired by word of Luke Skywalker’s sacrifice. However the war concludes, this will be the end of an era that also sees the millennia-long conflict between the Jedi and the Sith drawing to a close.

Rest assured, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker won’t be lacking in familiar faces. Along with Sequel Trilogy mainstays like Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren being presented and accounted for, Episode IX will also feature the return of Billy Dee Williams and Ian McDiarmid as Lando Calrissian and Emperor Palpatine, respectively. Unused footage of Carrie Fisher from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi will also allow Leia Organa to be present.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20, so keep checking back with CinemaBlend for more updates. Keep track of when the rest of this year’s movies are arriving with our 2019 release schedule.
