Sounds Like Sony Might Be Bringing The Sinister Six To Theaters
As far back as the first Spider-Man, the idea of getting the entire Sinister Six lineup into theaters has been a big, but unsuccessful, dream. We came pretty close in the last phase of Amazing Spider-Man movies, but eventually Tom Holland’s rebooted Peter Parker seemingly wiped those plans off the map. But now, it looks like we’re not as far as we thought from the cinematic Sinister Six we’ve always wanted.
You can thank Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal for this new round of hope, as she took part in the special features of Spider-Man: Far From Home’s recent home video release. And amid the easter eggs and supplemental materials, the following quote was fished out of Pascal’s contributions:
The goal of the silver screen Sinister Six, should it be achieved, would be the ultimate bad day for Spider-Man, as the legendary league of lousy citizens are united by one fantastic goal: to crush Peter Parker’s heroic efforts. And with the shocking ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home leaving Peter’s identity more vulnerable than ever, now seems like the best time to start down the path that would see that information really put to use.
Now there’s two different ways the specifics in Amy Pascal’s Sinister Six remark could possibly be interpreted: the first, and more obvious, is that we’ll see Vulture, Mysterio, Shocker, and Scorpion all return to make a future Spider-Man movie an epic event that cannot be missed. In which case, only two more villains would need to make a debut, before the Sinister Six have their day in the sun.
So Norman Osborn, Dr. Otto Octavius, or any of the other potential villains linked to this particular group may be waiting in the wings for that next Spider-Man solo film in Marvel’s 2021 lineup.
However, the Pascal quote from the Spider-Man: Far From Home special features, obtained via Screen Rant, could be seen as addressing the bridged Marvel Cinematic Universe/Sony Spider-Verse. In which case, we might see some of the MCU’s finest villains stepping up to take membership in the Sinister Six’s ranks, which could push for their inclusion in the next Spider-Man adventure, should the story support this idea.
No matter how you look at it, Amy Pascal is making a big tease that the Sinister Six could be on the horizon at some point. In which respect, the potential for their villainous deeds being the next Avengers-sized threat to both Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all the more possible. When the specifics are nailed down, we’ll report back with updates; but for the time being, it’s time to start getting excited about the seemingly eventual future for the Sinister Six.
