Star Wars Book Reveals What Happened After Rose Kissed Finn In The Last Jedi
As Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker approaches in less than two months, many fan questions are still piling up. In between curiosity concerning Palpatine’s return and how in Yoda’s name the movie is going to conclude the iconic Skywalker Saga, here’s another one: will Finn ever find love? John Boyega’s Star Wars character has often been defined by his many possible romances – whether it was holding hands with Rey, borrowing Poe Dameron’s jacket in Force Awakens or that kiss with Rose Tico at the end of The Last Jedi. As Boyega recently put it, his relationship status is something of a “love pentagon.”
Well, a prequel novel to Rise of Skywalker called Resistance Reborn just came out, and it’s offering some answers. One Reddit user recently posted an excerpt from the novel where Poe pokes and prods a bit into Finn’s love life. At first he asks him about Rey. Finn responds with this:
Then, when Poe moves on to Rose Tico, it seems to be the same story:
Poe responds with a funny quip, saying he can’t keep up with all his ‘friends’ before Finn admits he has a bit of a lacking love life. This is the part where Poe/Finn shippers say: “Here’s your moment, Poe! Swoop in!” Since when did the new Star Wars trilogy have lines compariable to a rom-com? It’s all saved for the novels, I guess. While I wouldn’t expect an exchange like this in Rise of Skywalker, the novel is canon and seems to be shooting down any new hope for Finn to find a romance within the Resistance.
Lines such as this almost seem tailor-made to provide specific fans answers to their questions, and give the saga a loophole to fail to address it in the upcoming movie. Rise of Skywalker certainly has stronger matters at hand to focus on besides Finn’s love life, but the series does seem to keep leaving romantic possibilities as loose ends time and time again. It was a surprise when The Last Jedi pursued a potential love triangle between Finn, Rey and Rose by the end, and left some fans oddly rooting for the Reylo relationship.
When asked, John Boyega called Finn the “most eligible bachelor in the galaxy” who is single and ready to mingle. Yet he also explained the backdrop of his life is a ”very distracting place to fall in love,” as you can probably imagine! Maybe Finn will always be known for his complicated musings for his fellow Resistance fighters without a true payoff? Or maybe Rise of Skywalker will address this aspect of the franchise?
Kelly Marie Tran has teased that Rose Tico has risen in the ranks since The Last Jedi from engineer support crew to a Resistance military commander who leads the Engineering Corps. We’ll have to see how things play out when The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
