Jurassic World 3 may be over a year away from hitting theaters, but as is frequently the case with these major blockbusters, filming has to begin quite a ways off to allow enough time for post-production to be handled properly. Well, the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise has finally begun rolling cameras, and to commemorate the occasion, director Colin Trevorrow has revealed Jurassic World 3’s official title: Jurassic World: Dominion.
This title reveal comes after some intense speculation in recent weeks saw Colin Trevorrow apparently admitting that a random fan on Twitter had called the shot way ahead of schedule. So obviously, with that sort of blood in the water, an official unveiling was only a matter of time, with the clock ticking down its final moments as of this afternoon.
Now that we know the title for Jurassic World 3 is actually Jurassic World: Dominion, let’s talk about how cool this new name actually sounds. Following the pretty stark title for its predecessor, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, this freshly minted moniker suggests a wider scope of adventure.
Plus, there’s a chance that with a name like Jurassic World: Dominion, we might see some sort of coexistence between humans and dinosaurs after all. Otherwise, they could have went with a more expected title like Jurassic World: Extinction, and set up the implications from Day One.
Remember that at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, nearly all of the dinosaurs being held on the Lockwood estate were freed from captivity by the young Maisie Williams, who was revealed to be a clone of Benjamin Lockwood’s late daughter. While this isn’t the first time in the Jurassic Park franchise that a dinosaur has run loose within the United States (see The Lost World: Jurassic Park), there’s no recapturing all the dinosaurs and taking them elsewhere this time around, even if Isla Nublar was still around.
Humans must now get used to dinosaurs living among them, and the short film Battle at Big Rock provided our first look at post-Fallen Kingdom life with these prehistoric creatures running and flying about. Needless to say that Jurassic World: Dominion will pull back the curtain further on this new status quo, though even if humans and dinosaurs, though we still don’t have any specific plot details about the threequel yet.
Two things we won’t be seeing in Jurassic World: Dominion are hybrid dinosaurs and dinosaurs attacking cities. Colin Trevorrow has also called Dominion a “celebration” of the entire Jurassic Park franchise, while Chris Pratt has noted that the movie has a similar feel to Avengers: Endgame with regard to all the people it’s bringing in.
In addition to Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprising Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively, Jurassic World: Dominion also sees the return of the original Jurassic Park trio: Sam Neill’s Alan Grant, Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm (who cameoed in Fallen Kingdom) and Laura Dern’s Ellie Sattler. Other folks returning for Dominion include Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Jake Johnson and Omar Sy.
