The Suicide Squad Just Delivered Some Jaw-Dropping Behind-The-Scenes Footage
When covering comic book movies, it's best not to ever be greedy. When a studio shows off something cool and exclusive from an exciting upcoming film, it's typically best behavior not to just immediately ask for more. For example, earlier this hour James Gunn revealed the full lineup of characters who will be appearing in his upcoming blockbuster The Suicide Squad – and at that time we were content to just be happy finally knowing who everyone in the cast will be playing. Now, however, the film has dropped an even more special first look at the film in the form of an epic, badass behind-the-scenes featurette... which you can watch right now!
Only a fool would have said that James Gunn wasn't the right fit for a Suicide Squad movie, and all of the evidence proving that is featured in this video. Sure, we don't get a great sense of what The Suicide Squad is actually going to be about plot-wise (beyond a group of criminals having the opportunity to reduce their respective prison sentences by doing black ops work), but the energy in this footage is electric and has sent our excitement for the movie through the roof – similar to what the debut Guardians of the Galaxy footage did at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2013.
What really stands out watching the footage is just how crazy all of the action looks, which makes sense when you consider that the special effects supervisor on the movie, Daniel Sudick (who has worked on the majority of the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbusters), told James Gunn that the work on the film was more nuts than anything he'd previously worked on. Even though this featurette clocks in under two minutes long, it still features some brilliant explosions and ass-kicking.
Also a bonus: we get to see a number of the characters in action – including those who are being given a big assist by the visual effects teams on the feature. For example, we now know what it will look like when Polka-Dot Man (played by David Dastmalchian) activates his suit:
And we also get our first look at King Shark (played on set by Steve Agee) throwing a guy into his massive jaws full of razor-sharp teeth:
To say the least, we are beyond excited for the arrival of The Suicide Squad, which is currently on track to be released on August 6, 2021 and features a full cast list that includes Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Alice Braga, Jai Courtney, Nathan Fillion, Pete Davidson, Michael Rooker, John Cena,David Dastmalchian, Sean Gunn, Storm Reid, and Peter Capaldi. Stay tuned not only for more of our coverage following the upcoming blockbuster, but also the rest of the major announcements and reveals coming out of DC Fandome.
