Father’s Day can be a tough time a year for some, for a wide array of reasons. This can be due to a father figure or child having passed away, a strained relationship with a father figure, or even physical distance keeping families apart. For Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, this past Father’s Day was one for reflection as his father unexpectedly passed away at the beginning of last year. Recently, Johnson spoke out about the place his father holds in his thoughts and heart, with an emotional post.
Dwayne Johnson has been vocal in the past about his somewhat strained relationship with his father, wrestling legend Rocky Johnson, and the effect his life and death has had on him as a man and his legacy. But on the heels of this most recent Father's Day, Johnson's words were sure to serve as a motivator for anyone going through situations with their fathers. The Jungle Cruise star took to his Instagram to share those words. Here’s what the former WWE World Champion had to say, in his own words:
My old man died so quick, I never had a shot to say goodbye or say thanks for all the lessons. Maybe I’ll see him down the road and thank him then. Til then let’s try and remember the good stuff about our lost loved ones - and if you guys had a complicated dynamic with your dad (or parent) like I did, well lets continue to work on that and trust the process along the way.
All too often do we not cherish the things we have until they are gone. Dwayne Johnson may have had a complicated relationship with his father and had a tough time in his younger years but, now that he is in a later stage of his life, he can appreciate the person his father was and the lessons he learned from him.
It’s easy to focus on the bad, but it's nice to see that Dwayne Johnson has managed to find the positive. In his heartfelt post, Johnson urges others who may have a complex relationship with their loved ones to do the same by remembering to dwell on the good times with our departed loved ones. He also suggest doing what we can to mend fences with those we are lucky enough to be on the same side with.
Dwayne Johnson has seen many successes in his life, in many different career avenues, and he doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon.
