Turns Out Space Is Not The Limit As Vin Diesel Has Another Big Idea For The Fast And Furious Franchise
Light spoilers for F9 lie ahead.
It had long been rumored that the Fast & Furious franchise would take a cosmic leap at some point and, in F9, two members of Dominic Toretto’s family shoot for the stars (literally). It was an over-the-top sequence to say the least, but surely had audiences on the edge of their seats. However, it would seem that space is not the limit, as FF star and producer Vin Diesel has another big idea for the long-running franchise. And you may want to prepare yourself for this on.
The sight of Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pearce and Ludacris’ Tej Parker shooting into space in a Pontiac Fiero, courtesy of allies Sean Boswell and Earl, will definitely be hard to top. Vin Diesel has recently been discussing the future of the Fast & Furious franchise, including the impending end of the main series and potential spinoffs. But during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Diesel was asked about the possibility of doing a Fast & Furious musical, to which he said he’s “dying” to do such a project.
Based on Vin Diesel’s body of work, some may be surprised to hear that Vin Diesel would be open to doing a musical version of his high-octane franchise. However, some may be surprised to know that the actor did musicals in high school and came up short of doing one:
Well, with Vin Diesel up for a musical, the chances of one happening for the Fast & Furious franchise are actually pretty solid. But what exactly would such a production look like? I mean, it’s one thing to have musical episodes of TV shows that typically don’t employ singing. But an entire Fast film that includes singing, dancing and flying cars would be a different thing entirely.
Still, there are things that can be done. The obvious choice is to have a new story that centers on Dominic Toretto and his family, which sees them express what they’re feeling through song. Or if the producers wanted to change things up a bit, they could even do a prequel musical that tells the story of a young Dominic Toretto and how he first gained his love of vehicles. It may sound campy, yes but, in a world where two FF characters are launching into space to disarm a satellite, is it really that far-fetched?
We’ll just have to wait and see if Vin Diesel actually decides to create such a musical. In the meantime, Fast & Furious fans can see the massive F9 in theaters and look forward to the next installment in the storied film saga.
