“In Kevin I Trust”: John Krasinski Touches On Fantastic Four Fan Love, MCU Possibilities After Director Is Signed
In recent months, the MCU’s Fantastic Four film has gone from rumor to planned Phase Four reality. Everything seems to be in place, with Spider-Man: Homecoming's Jon Watts set to direct and rumored talks with top Hollywood writers. While the film is in the initial stages of development, Marvel fans haven’t been shy about voicing their opinion on potential castings. That’s why for months, A Quiet Place II’s John Krasinski has been touted by many as the only option for Mr. Fantastic. The actor recently spoke up about Fantastic Four fan love and joining the MCU.
Given Mr. Fantastic’s current look in the comics, the role seems like John Krasinski’s for the taking. But like most MCU castings, the final decision comes down to Marvel executives, including Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. The Quiet Place II director was flattered by fans’ casting, saying:
John Krasinski is just like everyone else waiting anxiously to hear from Kevin Feige about Fantastic Four. The fan castings alone made the case for both Krasinski and his wife, Emily Blunt, to be part of Marvel’s First Family. But you never know, the Hollywood couple might not be Feige and Marvel’s top choice. Whenever the cast is announced, let’s hope the fans’ voices were heard. I mean, the backlash for Marvel alone would be otherworldly at this point.
But playing Mr. Fantastic isn’t the only way John Krasinski could enter the MCU. The actor revealed to Comicbook.com that he would love to direct a Marvel film in the future. Given the moviegoers and critics’ response to A Quiet Place Part II, directing a Marvel film may become a reality sooner rather than later. Having the former Office star in any capacity within the MCU would be a huge deal.
While John Krasinski waits on his MCU fate, the MCU’s Fantastic Four would be a nice rebirth after the disastrous reception of 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot. With Marvel taking the reins now, this reboot will surely treat Marvel’s first family properly. That said, until there’s more news on Fantastic Four, Marvel fans have a full slate of MCU fare to watch in 2021 and beyond.
