The DC Extended Universe is a unique place, as the past few years have seen more directorial-driven projects free of major crossovers. The next installment of the franchise is James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which will be a sequel/reboot to David Ayer’s 2017 original movie. Anticipation for the R-rated blockbuster is at a fever pitch, and the latest tease from Warner Bros. threw shade at The Fast and the Furious franchise.
The Suicide Squad is a month away from its release, and fans can’t wait to see what Guardians of the Galaxy visionary James Gunn has in store for his DC debut. The Fast and The Furious beat that blockbuster to theaters with F9, and now Warner Bros. is taking the time to poke fun at the beloved Vin Diesel franchise. Check it out below.
Touche. There have been countless memes and jokes about The Fast and the Furious’s constant theme of family throughout the nine movies. And as The Suicide Squad gets closer and aims for box office supremacy, WB took the time for a friendly jab via social media.
The above post comes to us from the official Twitter of Warner Bros. Australia. In it we see about half of the cast of The Suicide Squad, seemingly making up the first team of Task Force X that gets into the film’s action. Because the only thing stronger then family is a family of super villains. We’ll just have to wait and see how much this team of rogues actually has each other’s back throughout the upcoming blockbuster.
The Suicide Squad will become available on HBO Max at the same time as theaters. You can use this link to sign up for the streaming service.
There’s only a few months between the release of F9 and The Suicide Squad’s debut in theaters, but it wasn’t always supposed to be that way. The latest Fast and Furious movie was originally meant to hit theaters last Spring, but was pushed back a full year as a result of the pandemic. F9 ended up performing well in theaters, and now we get this delightful bit of social media correspondence.

Of course, there are a number of major The Suicide Squad characters who are noticeably absent from the above group photo. It seems that the second Task Force X will feature the likes of John Cena’s Peacemaker, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, and more. It should be interesting to see how James Gunn utilizes this massive ensemble, and to see how characters are brutally killed off-- especially given the movie’s R-rating.
As for The Fast and The Furious, the main franchise will seemingly come to an end with the upcoming 10th movie. But spinoffs are expected to keep the action franchise alive. Because you just can’t destroy a family… even with Harley Quinn and a motley crew of DC rogues.
The Suicide Squad is currently set to arrive in theaters on August 6th. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
