Disney's Jungle Cruise is looking to potentially become the studio's new theme park based action franchise. But to do that, it's going to have to have some pretty impressive action. Luckily, based on a new video that takes a closer look at the way the action is being created for the new movie, Jungle Cruise is looking to be everything fans are hoping for. Both Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt look right at home getting physical in the new movie.
It's no real shock to hear that on the set of Jungle Cruise Dwayne Johnson jumped into the film's stunts and learned everything quite quickly. The guy used to stage fights professionally in front of live crowds. It's one of the skills that made him an action star to begin with. But the new video from Disney also shows Emily Blunt jumping right in. It sounds like Blunt's view on the stunts was similar to her character's view on jumping into the action, just go for it and figure it out. Check out the video below.
While not naming names, Dwayne Johnson says here that, as a producer, he likes to see actors engaging with the stunts themselves. And one can assume that since Emily Blunt is the other focus of the video, she is who he is talking about. It certainly appears that Blunt was more than willing to give the action a go herself. It may not be her in every scene, but if she was willing to do a lot of the action herself, it can only make the movie better.
While the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been a monster success for Disney, it's the only time that making a movie based on a theme park attraction has really worked. When the movies in that particular corner of Disney haven't been huge hits, they've been failures. Jungle Cruise certainly feels like it might be closer to Pirates of the Caribbean than Country Bears. It's got a pair of huge stars which is going to help the movie in a big way. Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson both have natural charisma that will likely entertain audiences even if there other elements of the movie that end up not working quite as well.
As with Pirates of the Caribbean, the movie we're getting may be only loosely inspired by the theme park ride of the same name, but because it does share a name with an iconic attraction, it has a lot to live up to.
Whether you're looking for a successful film adaptation of a theme park attraction, or just a fairly family friendly action movie, I think we're all hoping Jungle Cruise turns out to be what we're all waiting for. We'll find out when the movie opens in theaters, and on Disney+ with Premier Access, on July 30
