Marvel Fan Makes A Captain America Shield That Actually Bounces Back, And Wow
There are fans, and then there are fans. Sure, I have several Funko Pops all over my house, but I’m not the kind of fan who actually makes my own props from some of my favorite movies. That’s just what a YouYuber named JJaservideo did, though, as he made a Captain America shield that actually bounces back, and wow. Just wow.
JLaservideo actually makes a ton of videos where he recreates movie props by using the power of—dun da da da—science! In the past, he’s also done Falcon’s wings and Yondu’s arrow. But I think I may be the most impressed with this creation, which you can check out here on his YouTube channel:
Now, to give you the long short of it, JLaservideo had to consider three main things when he was creating this amazing shield. One, he had to think about its strength, since duh, Cap’s shield is made of Vibranium. Two, he had to figure out how to make it bounce, and three, he had to figure out a way to get it to attach back to his arm like Cap does so deftly in the movies.
If you haven’t watched this YouTuber’s content in the past, then you’re in for a treat, since he goes through his process, step-by-step, just like a good physicist -- which is what he says he is -- should. Surprisingly, or at least from what he showcased, he didn’t go through too much trial and error, and he got his homemade version of Captain America's shield to work after only a few adjustments.
Early on, he said that he tried to use a rubber band and also a boomerang to make it bounce back, but he eventually settled on making it more like a frisbee. That also didn’t work out so great at first, but ultimately he figured out a way to make it work. Makes sense, since he’s kind of a genius.
The coolest part of the video for me, though, was not so much the bounce, but the actual strength of the shield. He made it so that somebody could throw knives at the shield or even a glass bottle, and it still withstood the force. This is crazy since the shield looks so lightweight, but it’s also extremely strong, just like Cap’s shield is in the Marvel movies. Sure, he wasn't crazy enough to try bullets on it; yet, I wouldn’t have even thought that it could take a bottle given the way the shield floats in the video.
I’m always so impressed by fans who take it to the next level. No lie, one of my best friends named Scott once led me upstairs to his attic, and I was blown away since it was made up to look like a full recreation of the Millennium Falcon. If you couldn’t tell, my buddy, Scott, is a HUGE Star Wars fan, often cosplaying as Boba Fett whenever he gets the chance.
