Sometimes all one needs to be sold on a movie is a glance at the cast, and Gunpowder Milkshake’s talent has that syrupy sweet blend of talent to reel us in. The action flick that looks like a cross between Birds of Prey and John Wick stars Karen Gillan as an assassin who teams up with her mother, Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey, and her lethal associates played by Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino and Angela Bassett. How do you top that?

Where do I even begin? There’s so many actresses! We could go Isabelle Huppert if we wanted a French actress. Or, I love Jennifer Lawrence. I think she is one of the greatest screen actresses that we have.
Yes, please. The first actor to fire out of Karen Gillan’s brain regarding a theoretical Gunpowder Milkshake 2 was Oscar-nominated French actress Isabelle Huppert. She’s a great choice for an action flick like this because she can emulate the kind of power and style oozing out of Gunpowder Milkshake.
Additionally, Karen Gillan threw in her interest in working with Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence. The actress has done a lot of action movie work over the years as Katniss Everdeen, along with playing Mystique in the X-Men movies and a Russian intelligence agent in Red Sparrow. Lawrence is an A + choice because she has a mix of skills in physical stunts, along with having a ton of personality to bring to the table. Gillan continued to name off ideas with these words:
Who else do I love? I love so many people. Meryl Streep. Can we bring in Meryl? Can [Meryl Streep] be a nemesis that becomes an ally over the course of the movie? Yeah, then she can be in the next one, you know? Because we don’t want to get rid of her. You do not get rid of Meryl.
Obviously Meryl Streep must be considered for Gunpowder Milkshake. I think it’s just an unspoken rule in Hollywood now that if you can get Meryl, you get Meryl. Karen Gillan even threw out the idea of Streep being a baddie at first, and then switching over to the side of her character and her team. It sounds like Gillan is even into the idea of making Gunpowder Milkshake a trilogy, with Streep really becoming part of the team in the third movie.
They are all solid choices from Karen Gillan, and this shows the types of incredible actresses she wants to work with in the future. The 33-year-old is already having herself a star-studded career between playing Nebula alongside the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, most recently in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. She is also the star of the Jumanji movies with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, and recently started directing her own movies and shorts.
