After a long year of waiting, the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally returned to theaters with Cate Shortland’s Black Widow. In addition to providing closure for Scarlett Johansson’s title character, the movie also introduced us to newcomers including Florence Pugh’s Yelena. And Pugh revealed that Johansson totally remarked on her sweatiness when they started working together-- much to her chagrin.
Florence Pugh and Scarlett Johansson played sisters in Black Widow, and it’s clear that the two Oscar nominated actresses formed their own strong bond. And it seems ScarJo helped to break the ice by pointing out how sweaty Pugh was getting while filming the action sequences. Pugh spoke mentioned this to his castmates David Harbour and Johansson herself, saying:
Well, that’s one way of getting comfortable with your coworkers. While it sounds like a bit of an HR nightmare, it’s clear that Scarlett Johansson poking fun at Florence Pugh’s sweaty Black Widow pits was a moment the Little Women actress will remember. And it does sound like a very sisterly thing to do.
Florence Pugh’s comments to BuzzFeed help to peel back the curtain on what it’s really like working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Black Widow was an emotional story about trauma, there were still plenty of laughs on set. Sometimes at the expense of Florence Pugh’s armpits.

Considering the costumes and action of Black Widow, it makes sense that the cast might have worked up a set bringing Natasha’s long-awaited solo movie to life. The starring cast all wore jumpsuits, and then engaged in dizzying fight sequences. As such, we can’t blame Florence Pugh and company for a bit of perspiration.

It certainly seems like Florence Pugh’s Yelena is going to have some legs in the greater MCU, especially after the post-credits scene of Black Widow. It should be interesting to see if the fan favorite character ultimately ends up being a villain or hero, as there are some hoping she’ll be The Avengers new Widow. Only time will tell.
Black Widow is in theaters now. Be sure to check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
