While the focus may be turned towards James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in the moments before its opening weekend, there are still those fans who want to see David Ayer’s original vision for his preceding film released to the public. Much like the Snyder Cut before it, the Ayer Cut has people campaigning for its day in the sun, and that issue has made its way to Margot Robbie and more from the cast of The Suicide Squad. That in turn has spurred on some interesting responses.
During the big premiere of The Suicide Squad, Variety was on hand to speak with Margot Robbie and her cast-mates. So a hot button issue such as David Ayer’s original vision for 2016's Suicide Squad was bound to come up in conversation. In truly diplomatic fashion, Robbie addressed the concern of the Ayer Cut thusly:
This latest statement backs Margot Robbie’s previous voicing of curiosity when it comes to what Suicide Squad's Ayer Cut could contain. As one of the most popular faces of DC Comics, with both this franchise and Birds of Prey keeping Harley Quinn in the public eye, Robbie’s opinion quite possibly holds the most weight in the world of The Suicide Squad. Which only makes the support of her fellow Squad members all the more energetic.
Other stars from The Suicide Squad also lent their support to David Ayer’s hard-fought campaign to see his cut of Suicide Squad released. John Cena, Peacemaker himself, chimed in with his own thoughts, which were that if the fans really want the Ayer Cut to be released, it’d be in the best interest of Warner Bros to fulfill that public demand. Along some very similar lines, Joel Kinnaman also had his say when promoting The Suicide Squad, providing the following thoughts on the red carpet:
The wishes of the fans and the vision of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad are a perfect storm of demand. That only makes the fact that the director himself remains tireless in his quest to make it all happen all the more important. It certainly worked for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and it could do the trick again if the stars align.
Of course, part of that deal will be whether or not The Suicide Squad is a hit in theaters and on HBO Max. Showings start as early as 7 pm tonight, so be sure to check your local listings and plan accordingly. Or, if you’ve been looking for an excuse to sign up for an HBO Max account, check out the current offer for potential subscribers, and get in on the fun from the comfort of your own couch.
