Following a year of delays, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding with new stories for both the small and silver screens. Phase Four will bring back a number of beloved characters, including Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. But are they already filming Nia DaCosta’s sequel The Marvels?
Brie Larson made her MCU debut as the title character of Captain Marvel, before crossing over in Avengers: Endgame. The ‘90s set movie also featured a digitally de-aged Samuel L. Jackson, and established that he knew Carol Danvers long before the Avengers were even formed. And now it looks like they might be reuniting on screen in The Marvels. Jackson teased his return as Nick Fury on social media, posting:
Nick Fury has a signature look about him, including some killer facial hair. And now Samuel L. Jackson is seemingly back on set, complete with the prosthetic mustache and beard that help him transform into the S.H.I.E.L.D. leader. And given his T-shirt in the second image, Jackson seems to be teasing his role in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel.
The above post comes to us from Samuel L. Jackson’s personal Instagram account, and is sure to turn a few heads. Marvel Studios has been moving at dizzying speeds since film sets opened back up. And the news about Nick Fury possibly joining the ensemble of The Marvels sure to increase anticipation for the mysterious project.
The MCU has found its streaming home on Disney+. You can use this link to sign up for the streaming service.
But Samuel L. Jackson isn’t the only one who has been teasing a return to the Captain Marvel franchise with Nia DaCosta’s sequel. Brie Larson herself also recently spoke about the process of filming, and what it’s like working on a massive MCU installment like The Marvels. You can check out her comments below, which have made their way around Twitter.

Narratively, it seems like The Marvels could go seemingly anywhere, especially with the inclusion of Nick Fury. The last we saw Samuel L. Jackson’s character was in Spider-Man: Far From Home’s post-credits scene, revealing he was in space with the Skrulls. Captain Marvel is a cosmic hero by definition, so their reunion would make a great deal of sense.
As the title of The Marvels suggests, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers won’t be the only hero involved in Nia DaCosta’s MCU debut. She’ll be joined by WandaVision favorite Teyonah Parris, who is playing the adult version of Monica Rambeau. Teenage hero Ms. Marvel/ Kamala Khan will also factor into the story, after first debuting in her own Disney+ series.
The Marvels is currently expected to arrive in theaters on November 11th, 2022. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
