Despite it slightly underwhelming at the box office, The Suicide Squad is one of the best critically reviewed DCEU movies and is quite the accomplishment for James Gunn. Idris Elba’s Bloodsport is a big reason for the film’s success, as his reluctant leadership and terrible parenting help form the movie’s emotional core. James Gunn has shared photos of Idris Elba behind the camera, because apparently there’s nothing he can't do.
James Gunn is a visionary director, and it seems he wasn’t the only filmmaker among his The Suicide Squad crew. James Gunn has shared some fantastic behind-the-scenes photos of Idris Elba on Twitter, operating a unique camera for a scene involving the rat Sebastian and Daniela Melchior in prison. Idris Elba is pictured shooting with a special camera, and he looks like a natural. James Gunn explains that the camera is a special rig that was made specifically for The Suicide Squad. The camera is supposed to be able to capture intimate moments like Sebastian, the rat crawling on Ratcatcher 2’s shoulder. Idris Elba took the opportunity to try the camera out, maybe in an effort to get some more behind-the-camera experience.

Idris Elba made his directorial debut with Yardie in 2018, and he clearly has ambitions behind the camera and in front of it. Working with a director like James Gunn, who is known to be a visionary and inventive director, is probably a big reason he signed on to do The Suicide Squad. That and getting to have a great time with a killer cast.
Idris Elba’s Bloodsport was the super-skilled assassin he was built up to be as a guy who apparently put Superman in the hospital. The insane and twisted ending to The Suicide Squad seemingly points to us seeing more of Bloodsport and the rest of the squad down the line. Recently Idris Elba has revealed that he is taking on the role of Knuckles in the Sonic The Hedgehog sequel, so he is continuing to add to his major franchise resume.
It seems like the possibilities for what’s next for James Gunn are endless. His John Cena-led spinoff of The Suicide Squad is a sure bet for a great time since Cena’s peacemaker was so good in the movie. Since Gunn did such an excellent job with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, fans are wondering if he would direct Gotham City Sirens next. We hope we see a lot more James Gunn DC projects for years to come.
