Move Over, Tom Holland, There’s Still A Lot Of Love For Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man As Fans Celebrate His Birthday
As Spider-Man remains one of the most beloved Marvel superheroes of all time, fans have gone through quite the journey as we’ve watched Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland’s versions of Peter Parker. Presently, we’re in the ever-exciting era of seeing Spidey in the MCU and among the Avengers, but as fans wait for Spider-Man: Mo Way Home, it’s apparent that Andrew Garfield still has their hearts despite the ill-fated Amazing Spider-Man movies.
Fans got Andrew Garfield trending Friday morning on Twitter on behalf of the actor’s 38th birthday. Garfield is rumored to be appearing in No Way Home, and fans are going strong on their stances that he is the best cinematic version of the hero thus far.
Is this a hot take? Since Tom Holland nabbed the role for Captain America: Civil War, the consensus seems to have leaned towards MCU’s Spidey. However, I’d agree with today’s trending topic. Andrew Garfield was an exceptional version of the hero and really brought an especially big depth to Peter Parker through his performance. We don’t know if he’ll actually meet Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the multiverse, but fans really hope the actor does reprise the character and are taking some time today to honor him.
Andrew Garfield’s performance was sadly caught in the middle of some Sony drama that didn’t necessarily give his Spider-Man the best stories to work with. Making Lizard the villain in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man bogged down an otherwise inspired adaptation of the hero. Then there was Jamie Foxx’s Electro mixed in with the emergence of Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin and stuffing a Sinister Six setup into The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Whoa, whoa, not so fast. Andrew Garfield has told fans “I recommend that you chill” about the Spider-Man rumors because apparently they are not true. But then again, actors have pushed off big reveals like this before. So it puts fans in a tough spot here. Lots of people want to see him back and it could happen with the multiverse opening up in the MCU, but Garfield couldn’t confirm or deny either way, so we’ll have to manage our expectations until then.
For the time being, there’s no Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer yet, despite the movie starring Tom Holland coming out this December. But we’d expect it’s coming soon. At least that’ll give us some context as to what Spidey is dealing with this time around, but at this point, if Andrew Garifeld and Tobey Maguire are not in the threequel, a ton of fans will be disappointed.
Not every veteran superhero actor gets this much love nearly a decade after hanging up his suit, so the love being sent Andrew Garfield’s way on his birthday about his Spider-Man is really a testament to how good he was in the role. The actor has opened up about the role before, sharing some disappointment about having to say goodbye to the role due to studio meddling. In his words to Variety in 2016:
