ReelBlend Podcast #43: Gladiator 2 Problems, Netflix Changes And A New Game

Russell Crowe in Gladiator

The London episode of ReelBlend was so epic, the guys needed time to recuperate. Now that they are all recharged, they're ready to dive back into the movie news of the day, and man, did they have a lot to discuss on ReelBlend #43.

Kevin McCarthy and Jake Hamilton were together in L.A., where the duo was taking part in a number of press junkets. In fact, they recorded this one with Sean O'Connell while in the midst of a Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it Ralph 2 press event that included several props and arcade games. Fun stuff.

But there was a sequel that the guys did NOT get very excited about discussing, and that's Gladiator 2, which apparently will lure Sir Ridley Scott back to the land of swords and sandals. The ReelBlend guys discuss why that's, in general, a bad idea... but they elaborate on why Austin Powers 4 could actually work.

From there, the conversation shifts to Netflix, and its reversal on the policy of letting movies like Roma, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and Outlaw King play in theaters before they reach the streaming giant. Kevin's all for this, and Jake and Sean largely agree.

The big topic this week has been travel: Not a surprise if you are a regular listener to the podcast. Yes, Kevin and Jake are in L.A. But Jake also fills listeners in on his dream trip to New Zealand on behalf of Alita: Battle Angel. And Sean talks about riding scooters around Rome for The Girl in the Spider's Web.

The #Blend game this week centered around Stephen King movies, and our conversation touched on the horrifying, as well as the touching, adaptations of King's work. Next week's #Blend game will be special, as we are playing #PixarBlend, so play along by sharing on social, or by emailing ReelBlend@CinemaBlend.com.
