One of the draws of the weekly ReelBlend podcast is the behind-the-scenes stories the hosts are able to share from their adventures covering the entertainment industry. The episode begins, as all of them do, with News. And there was a lot! Ben Affleck walked away from Batman. Meaning that Matt Reeves will have a new actor when he gets The Batman off the ground. That movie has a release date now: June 25, 2021.
The guys also discussed Super Bowl trailers ahead of the Big Game. They speculated on which movies needed a splashy spot more than other films. And they debated whether companies should be releasing their trailers early or not.
The SAG Awards handed out their top prizes, and Kevin, Sean and Jake discussed whether the Best Ensemble win for Black Panther would help the Marvel Studios feature in its quest to win a Best Picture Oscar. Other races seem to be buttoning up, from Glenn Close prevailing over Lady Gaga to Rami Malek taking home nearly every trophy Bohemian Rhapsody.
After that, the guys told their stories. Jake interviewed Richard Dreyfuss as the acting legend came through Chicago. They spoke about Jaws, and Close Encounters, and he had great stories to share. Kevin, meanwhile, happened to be in Las Vegas for the Lady Gaga show where Bradley Cooper joined her on stage for “Shallow,” and his stories about that night have to be heard.
