How Harry Potter Fans Can Learn The Form Of Their Patronus, Officially
Not since the sorting test as Pottermore been quite so valuable to Harry Potter fans who need to know exactly where and how they fit into J.K. Rowling's magical world. After teasing something new on the way earlier this week, Pottermore finally dropped the highly anticipated Patronus test, allowing fans of theHarry Potter books and movies the opportunity to know what animal their Patronus would take.
If your Harry Potter memory is rusty, the Patronus Charm is a defensive charm that wizards use to ward off dementors. Conjuring it requires the witch or wizard to think of their happiest memory, while saying the words "Expecto Patronum." The result is a glowing positive energy force that takes the shape of an animal, which will chase off the Dementor, and take some of the chill out of the room.
Harry Potter's Patronus is a stag, the same form his father was able to take as an animagus. Hermione's Patronus is an otter, and Ron's is a Jack Russell terrier. If witches and wizards in the Harry Potter universe have a spirit animal, the Patronus is probably its best reflection. Much in the way fans of the series have always wanted to know what house they'd be sorted into at Hogwarts, or what their wand would be made up of, we've all wanted to know what form our Patronus would take.
The Pottermore quiz, which was written by J.K. Rowling herself, allows us to find out, first by asking us a few questions, and of course, by requiring us to think of our happiest memory.
J.K. Rowling Tweeted about her own experience with the test, both in writing it, and in discovering that her own Patronus had changed...

Life brag - I actually got a Heron too, so I feel like I'm pretty fantastic company right now. Not sure I would've ever predicted that myself, but I would've said the same thing about being sorted into Slytherin years ago, and yet, I was instantly at peace with the outcome when that happened. #SlytherinPride #HeronForever
