Lady Gaga Is Officially Starting A Las Vegas Residencency
Lady Gaga revealed exciting news on Tuesday, and let the world know she is set to take the stage at MGM's Park Theater in Las Vegas for a two-year residency. The announcement is sure to excite all the Little Monsters out there, especially now that the North American leg of Lady Gaga's Joanne World Tour is complete. The 31-year-old pop star shared the fun news with a tweet:
In a statement lengthier than the tweet, Lady Gaga paid tribute to Las Vegas, and the great singers who have had residencies there. In recent years, Las Vegas has played host to the residencies of a bunch of big names in music, including Bette Midler, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, Celine Dion, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, and Mariah Carey. But Lady Gaga gushed with pride in the statement, which appeared in V, for the chance to count herself among the legendary old Hollywood musicians who called Sin City home. She said,
Lady Gaga also emphasized her Little Monsters and anyone who buys a ticket to the show can count on her to give her best each night. She mentioned that she had made that point clear to MGM and the Park Theater partners, too. It is possible Lady Gaga felt the need to explain her commitment, because she has had a tough go with her health in recent years due to the development of fibromyalgia.
Back in 2013, Lady Gaga had to cut short her Born This Way Ball world tour because of a traumatic hip injury that required surgery. Since then, she has faced more pain because of fibromyalgia, which even forced her to cancel and reschedule some of the shows in her most recent Joanne tour. Lady Gaga let cameras document aspects of her pain for her Netflix documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two, and the pain looked unbearable. However, she pushed through for big performances, like the Super Bowl, so she surely will be dependable despite the pain.
As mentioned, Lady Gaga announced her Las Vegas plans after finishing up her Joanne World Tour concerts in North America. In fact, it was the day after her final show in Los Angeles. Previously, the pop icon talked about the possibility of having a Las Vegas residency when she spoke with the Mix 94.1-FM morning show in January, in advance of her Super Bowl halftime show. She said she was "excited someday to" have a Las Vegas show, and she explained that she loves Sin City because she loves show business.
Besides having the new Las Vegas residency to think about, Lady Gaga also will be busy promoting the release of A Star Is Born next year. The film sees her debut as the lead role in a feature film opposite Bradley Cooper. She will be taking her turn as the lead in the role after both Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland played the part in 1976 and 1954, respectively.
So, it is going to be a busy year for Mother Monster. Hopefully, it all works out well, and the Las Vegas residency gives her a nice respite from the road for a couple of years.
