Naya Rivera’s Domestic Battery Charges Have Been Dropped
While many kids grow up wanting to be famous and on television, there is a downside to fame. Exposure to money and celebrity can be toxic, and any missteps with the law are quickly broadcast to the world. This is surely the case with Glee's Naya Rivera, who has had a fair amount of scandal associated with her since she entered the public eye. In addition to her highly publicized feud with Lea Michele and fall out with Ryan Murphy, she also had a domestic battery charge floating around from her estranged husband Ryan Dorsey. Luckily for her, it appears the charges have been dropped.
This news comes to us from TMZ, which reports that Ryan Dorsey isn't moving forward with the charges against Naya Rivera. And since Dorsey didn't try to seek legal retribution, the Kanawha County Magistrate Court's office in West Virginia dropped the domestic battery charges against the Glee alum. As such, it looks like Rivera has survived another public scandal relatively unscathed.
Naya Rivera was arrested over this past Thanksgiving weekend, after allegedly physically assaulting her husband Ryan Dorsey. Following an argument about their child, things apparently got physical, resulting Dorsey to call the police. Dorsey apparently had a video of the attack, which prompted her arrest. Rivera's booking was even caught on camera, which went viral during the holiday season. As such, this entire incident was made very public.
Since her tenure on Glee, Naya Rivera has been keeping fairly busy. She made her film debut, and did a few episodes on Lifetime's Devious Maids. She also released her first book back in 2016, titled Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up. The book recounted her rise to fame, as well as the various challenges that came from appearing on Glee. It ended up doing pretty well, and her recent arrest and subsequent separation from her husband Ryan Dorsey will no doubt provide Rivera with plenty of fodder for a follow up book.
Naya Rivera also famously dated Glee co-star Mark Salling while they were working together on Fox's musical comedy series. Their brief affair was highly publicized, as was an incident were she allegedly keyed and egged Salling's car out of jealousy. Ultimately Salling would have a career ending scandal of his own, after being arrested for having child sexual abuse imagery. He eventually plead guilty for possession of the material, which could result in up to 7 years of jail time. After the news of his arrest became public, Rivera revealed that he was deeply troubled, and she unfortunately wasn't surprised by the allegations.
Everyone here at CinemaBlend hopes the best for Naya Rivera, and hopes she can find a way to move on from this latest scandal and return to the small screen.
