When Serena Williams Will Return To Professional Tennis
There are few athletes quite as legendary as Serena Williams. The tennis professional has been ranked the No. 1 in singles multiple times, and is still at the top of the sport at 36 years old. While Williams has always been able to deliver on the court, she embarked on a new type of journey this past year. Serena Williams became a mother for the very first time in September, giving birth to her daughter Alexis Ohanian Jr.. Williams seems to be enjoying her time as a new mother, and has been sharing occasional photos of herself and Alexis. But when is she going to return to tennis? Turns out, sooner than one may have thought.
Serena Williams will be returning to her signature sport in February, just five short months after giving birth to her daughter. She'll be competing alongside her sister Venus at the Fed Cup. The Williams sisters will be representing the United States in the match against The Netherlands. She participated in the Fed Cup back in 2015, and this will mark her big return to the world of tennis.
After giving birth to her daughter Alexis in September, Williams originally tried to get in competition shape in just two month's time. She competed in an exhibition in December 2017 against the French Open champion at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately, she suffered a loss, and later admitted that her body just wasn't fully recovered since giving birth. But she did seem to enjoy being back at it, telling ESPN:
ESPN's news of Serena Williams' February return is sure to excite the generations of fans who have been watching Serena and Venus kick ass on the court for years. The dynamic duo has always remained at the forefront of the tennis conversation, and it doesn't look like Venus will be changing this after becoming a mother. She's been seriously kicking ass at getting back into shape, and it'll be a joy to see her back on the court at the Fed Cup.
Of course, Serena Williams has also been enjoying her time as a new mother. She's been posting a ton of images on her Instagram profile, to the delight of her 7.5 million followers. You can check out one such image below.
How sweet is that? While Serena Williams' competative side is still very much apart of her life, it's nice to see her loving motherhood with baby Alexis. Considering how hard she's been working all these years, she certainly deserves it.
Congratulations to Serena Williams on the birth of her daughter, and welcome back to the world of professional tennis!
